3,000 Milestone

Great Clips opened it's 3,000 salon in Albert Lea, Minn.
2007

A Time to Reflect

Great Clips celebrated its 25th anniversary. In that time, it grew from four Minnesota salons to more than 2,600 across the U.S. and Canada, making it the fastest-growing haircare franchise in North America.
2006

Relax. You're at Great Clips.

Great Clips unveils its Relax salon design and opened its 2,500th salon.

Great Needs. Great Deeds.

Great Clips raises more than $500,000 for Great Needs. Great Deeds.
1998

Rhoda Rises to the Top

After joining Great Clips part-time in 1984, Rhoda Olsen climbs to the head of human resources, and finally to president of the company in 1998.
1997

1,000 Milestone

Great Clips opened its 1,000th salon and also held its first charity golf classic.
1993

Going International

As Great Clips neared the 400 mark, the first Canadian salon opened in British Columbia.
1990

Three Thousand by 2000

Ray introduced an ambitious goal of 3,000 salons by the year 2000.
1987

Franchised Firsts

Great Clips grows to 144 salons and Great Clips commercials hit the TV airwaves.
1983

Meet Ray and His Vision

Chairman of the Board Ray Barton's vision to revolutionize the haircare industry begins when the first Great Clips franchise opens in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota.
1982

The Minnesota Roots

Steve Lemmon and David Rubenzer opened the first Great Clips near the University of Minnesota campus.

Withstanding the Test of Time

Great Clips, Inc. was established in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1982, when most people received haircuts in one of three ways: in full-service salons, from mom-and-pop barbershops, or at home. From those humble beginnings, Great Clips has grown to have more than 3,400 salons. See the timeline to see how we did it.
